Tips for a higher score
Most runs end at the same few moments: flipping too late for a ledge, crossing into a slab, or reaching a pinch while riding a wall. Fix those three and your score goes up. These tips come from how the game actually works.
1. Read the block, not the ball
Each block has one safe answer. Look up the shaft and decide early:
- Ledge on your wall: flip before it arrives. A crossing takes about a third of a second, so tap while there is still clear air between you and the ledge.
- Ledge on the other wall: stay where you are. The most common mistake is flipping out of habit.
- Slab in the middle: stay on a wall. Slabs only catch a ball that is crossing.
- Pinch: be crossing as it passes. Start the jump so the middle of your crossing meets the gap. One clean crossing always fits.
2. Use the mid-air flip
A tap in mid-air turns the ball around without waiting to land. It saves a jump you started too early, and it lets you hang in the middle for a pinch. It is a correction, not a habit: extra taps make a run harder to read.
3. In the Daily, learn the course
The Daily course is identical on all three of your tries, block for block. Treat the first try as a scouting run: notice where the first pinch comes and which side the tricky ledges are on. Your second and third tries can then be played from memory as well as reflex. After your tries, Replay lets you practice the same course without touching your score.
4. Know where it gets hard
The climb speeds up and the blocks get closer until block 40, where the speed doubles from the start and then holds. Pinches can appear from block 9 on and their gaps narrow with the same ramp. If your runs keep ending in the 30s, that is the ramp; past 40 it doesn't get faster.
5. Near misses are style, not points
Passing a block with almost no room gets its own sound and haptic, but it scores the same single point as a comfortable pass. Take the safe line. The ball's hit area is slightly smaller than the ball you see, which forgives a graze, but don't plan on it.
6. Practice in Endless
Endless gives you a new course every run and no limit on tries, so it is the place to drill pinches and fast sections. Your Endless best is kept on your phone and has no effect on the Daily.
7. Set up your phone
- Sound helps timing: the game sounds each flip, landing and point. It mixes under your music, and the silent switch mutes it.
- If screen shake or flashes distract you, turn on Reduce Motion in iOS Settings; the game drops its shake and most of the burst.
